Halifax, the UK's largest mortgage lender, has launched a a new website, www.homeimprovementadvice.co.uk which provides information to DIY enthusiasts to help them plan their projects more effectively and efficiently, however big or small.

Research shows that annual spending on DIY in the UK has increased by 76% from 6.4bn to £11.3bn over the past ten years.  This is double the amount spent on trades and services and reflects the increased number of people now carrying out their own DIY projects. 

Within DIY, purchases of tools increased the most, up 126% over the past decade to £4.2bn, while spending on DIY materials rose 56% to £7.1bn.
