Marking one hundred years of iconic home innovation, the Daily Mail Ideal Home Show kicks off its centenary celebrations on Friday 14 March, 2008.
An incredible collection of home inspiration under one roof, the UK’s best loved home show has always been the place to find the latest in home innovation. Over the last 100 years it has been the launch pad for countless household legends including the toaster and electric kettle (1920), the electric grass mower (1970), the microwave (1947) and the largest home plasma screen (2006). The show also unveiled the first ‘energy efficient kitchen’ in 1989.
This year, to mark the Ideal Home Show’s commitment to environmental issues, the show will be holding a light bulb amnesty. All visitors who bring an old light bulb can exchange it for a free energy saving bulb.
There are a number of exciting special exhibitions at this year's Ideal Home Show
- Century Street takes you on a nostalgic journey through time, charting the dramatic changes to homes and lifestyles from the first show in 1908 to today. Revealing how homes have transformed over the last 100 years.
- The Ultimate Eco House is an eye-catching and pragmatic solution to the problems of the future of housing in the face of issues like climate change, diminishing fossil fuels, adapting life styles and changes in building regulations.
- The Dream Home and Guest House is a stunning example of how the other half live with every room containing a wow factor. Measuring five and a half thousand square feet and costing over six million pounds if it where built for real, the contemporary mansion contains high-end accessories most of us can only dream of. Features include a cinema room containing the world’s largest plasma television – a Panasonic measuring 103 inches and retailing at £56,000.
